Ship an Aston Martin to Dubai

An Aston Martin is not welded together. Its body structure is aluminium extrusions, castings and pressings joined with structural adhesive and mechanically fixed — the bonded aluminium method still used on DB12, Vantage, Vanquish and DBX. It is light and extremely stiff. It also means there are designed places where load may be introduced, and places where it may not. Anyone lifting, supporting or strapping the car needs to know the difference.

Opera Shipping moves Aston Martins into and out of Dubai by air: enclosed, climate-stable, handled the fewest possible times, insured with no upper limit on the car's value, and run by one dedicated coordinator from collection through to RTA registration. Whether it is a DB12 Volante leaving Gaydon or a DBX707 following a family into a relocation, this is the Aston Martin version of our luxury and exotic car shipping service.

The fastest answer: how to ship an Aston Martin to Dubai

  • Recommended: air freight in an enclosed unit — fastest, lowest-touch, climate-stable, and the method where every contact point with the car is planned rather than improvised.
  • Considered second: a dedicated, sole-use enclosed sea container. One car, one container, nothing shared.
  • Not recommended: shared container or open RoRo for a car of this value.

To quote we need:

  • Model and year, exact variant
  • Whether it is a coupe, Volante or Roadster
  • Origin and UAE destination
  • Whether the car runs and is standard or modified
  • Your timeline

Bonded aluminium: why an Aston Martin has rules about where you touch it

The stiffness of the car lives in its undertrays

Since the VH architecture arrived at Gaydon, Aston Martin has built its cars on an aluminium underframe of extrusions, precision castings and pressings, bonded with aerospace-grade structural adhesive and fixed with self-piercing rivets rather than assembled as a welded steel shell. The company still describes the DBX body structure as bonded aluminium, and credits the method with holding a car that size to a 2,245 kg kerb weight.

On DB12, Aston Martin attributes a seven per cent gain in global torsional stiffness to underbody components specifically: the engine cross brace, the front and rear undertrays, the front crossmember and the rear bulkhead. Read that list from a freight desk. The stiffness of the car lives in its undertrays and crossmembers — exactly the parts a trolley jack, a four-post lift arm, a ramp or a badly placed chock meets first.

Aston Martin's own handbooks are unusually blunt

Do not lift the vehicle with a jack or other equipment under the suspension arms, and do not place a jack or lifting equipment further inboard on the car than the designated jacking points. The sills carry cut-outs marking where those points are. That is not a workshop nicety. It is the difference between a car that arrives as it left and one with a deformed sill section that no amount of paint resolves.

So we specify lift-pad and support positions before the truck is dispatched. The car is loaded on the flat where possible, restrained over the tyres rather than through the wheels or any part of the structure, and never chocked against an undertray.

Gulf heat does not threaten a glued car

Owners often ask whether Gulf heat threatens a glued car; realistically it does not — a production structural bond carries crash loads for the life of the vehicle. The risk here is mechanical and human: one lift pad in the wrong place, once.

Volante and Roadster: the fabric-roof question

Aston Martin offers an open version of almost every core car, each with a different mechanism. Vantage Roadster runs a Z-fold roof that opens or closes in 6.8 seconds — claimed as the quickest electric folding roof on sale — and needs no separate tonneau cover. DB12 Volante uses an eight-layer fabric roof, 14 seconds open and 16 closed, operable up to 50 km/h. Vanquish Volante uses a K-fold roof deployable in 14 seconds.

Three mechanisms, one shipping rule: our open Aston Martins travel roof closed and latched. Fabric left folded and compressed for a full transit is where creasing and mildew marks begin, and a closed roof seals the cabin for the condition report. Open cars are also heavier than their coupes — around 111 kg on DB12 — which changes the restraint plan.

Note what this is not. Length is not the problem: at 4,725 mm the DB12 and 5,039 mm the DBX707 both fit a standard container's internal length. Nor is fragility, in the way it is on a low, carbon-bodied car — see how differently we approach shipping a Ferrari to Dubai. This is a strong car with specific interfaces.

Air versus sea freight for an Aston Martin

Air freight (recommended)

The car travels in an enclosed unit on a main-deck freighter: quickest route, fewest hands, stable environment. Fewest hands is the point — every extra lift is another chance for equipment to land where the structure was never meant to be loaded. Fuel or battery charge is kept below a quarter for flight.

Dedicated enclosed sea container (considered second)

One car, one container, sole use, braced and blocked to the car's own dimensions rather than a generic pattern. Slower, never shared.

We do not put an Aston Martin in a shared container or on RoRo — both mean shared decks, shared handling and drivers working to a schedule rather than a jacking diagram. Our sea freight pages set out each method.

How shipping an Aston Martin to Dubai works

1

Quote and booking

Model, variant, year and value, origin and UAE destination. We confirm method, equipment, paperwork and a realistic window, and flag drive-side or age issues before you commit.

2

Enclosed collection and condition report

The car is collected under cover and photographed in full — sills, jacking points, undertrays and splitter, where handling damage shows first.

3

Export documentation at origin

Title or registration and export clearance in the origin country. If the car is leaving Dubai, the RTA export certificate and deregistration.

4

Air transit with tracking

Fuel or battery charge below a quarter, the car secured over the tyres in an enclosed unit, one coordinator reporting at each stage. Our import service runs both sides as one file.

5

UAE customs clearance

Customs entry, then the Vehicle Clearance Certificate, then GCC-spec conformity through MoIAT if the car is not already GCC-specification. Duty is 5% on value plus freight and insurance, and 5% VAT on the duty-inclusive total.

6

RTA inspection, registration and delivery

Inspection, insurance, then Mulkiya and plates — the car delivered enclosed, not driven across the city.

Documents, customs and UAE eligibility

The UAE charges 5% customs duty on the car's value plus freight and insurance, and 5% VAT on the duty-inclusive total. The all-in landed figure commonly settles 13–18% above the car's value once conformity, inspection, insurance and registration are added. Cars enter by sea at Jebel Ali, Khalifa or Khalid, and by air at DXB or DWC.

If the car is not already built to GCC specification, a GCC Conformity Certificate from MoIAT is required before the RTA will register it. Cars over ten years old attract pre-approval; cars over thirty may qualify as a classic under permit. DB12, Vantage, Vanquish, Valhalla and Valkyrie are built at Gaydon in Warwickshire and DBX at St Athan in Wales, so a large share of pre-owned cars of this marque are UK-market — confirm the drive side early, because the UAE registers left-hand-drive cars for road use.

Aston Martin Handling and Transit Dubai

Specs, handling and transit

Handling follows the lift points, kerb mass and roof. A Vantage is around 1,630 kg, a DB12 coupe 1,685 kg, a DB12 Volante 1,796 kg; a DBX707 at 2,245 kg needs deck loading rather than a light lift-gate. Cars fly into DXB or DWC; sea shipments route via Jebel Ali, with transit confirmed at booking.

Aston Martin models we ship

DB12 & DB12 Volante (the Super Tourer)
DB12 S & DB12 S Volante
Vantage & Vantage S
Vantage Roadster — Z-fold roof car
Vanquish & Vanquish Volante (5.2L V12)
DBX707 & DBX S — the SUV
Valhalla (plug-in hybrid, carbon tub)
Valkyrie & Valkyrie Spider (monocoque)
DBS 770 Ultimate, DB11, DBS Superleggera, V12 Vantage, Valour and classic DB-series cars

Track-only variants such as Valkyrie AMR Pro can be owned in the UAE but are not road-registrable. Financed or leased cars need a no-objection letter from the finance house before export — raised at quotation, not at the port.

Shipping an Aston Martin from Dubai

The same service runs outbound. Export peaks March to June, when owners move cars to Europe for the season — typically Dubai to Europe or Dubai to the UK. We handle the RTA export certificate and deregistration, then destination-side compliance, whether the car is permanently exported or taken out for the summer. Book that window early; air capacity for cars tightens before demand does.

Tracking, safety and insurance

The car is enclosed from collection, restrained over the tyres, and covered by a photographic condition report before and after transit. Your coordinator updates you at collection, departure, arrival, clearance and delivery.

On insurance the distinction is the whole point. Clause C (Total Loss) pays only if the car is lost outright. Clause A (All Risk) covers damage in transit. On a bonded aluminium car the realistic bad outcome is not a lost container — it is localised structural damage from a single mishandled lift, which is exactly what total-loss cover does not touch. We place Clause A on Aston Martins as standard, with no upper limit on the value we will insure. Over the past few years we have moved the marques in this class in and out of Dubai by air, each through one named coordinator.

What shapes your Aston Martin shipping quote

Rather than publish a figure that would not hold, here is what moves it:

  • The method, air versus a dedicated enclosed container
  • The variant, since a DBX707 and a Vantage are different loads
  • Whether the car is a Volante or Roadster
  • Its value, which sets both the insurance and the UAE duty
  • Origin and routing, since a UK to Dubai move is a different file
  • The season, since March to June is the busy window
  • Whether MoIAT conformity is needed on arrival

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I ship an Aston Martin to Dubai safely?

By air in an enclosed unit, lifted and supported only at the manufacturer's designated points, restrained over the tyres, insured under Clause A all-risk cover with no value cap, and run by one coordinator through to RTA registration. A sole-use enclosed container is the alternative.

Will a DB12 or a DBX707 fit in a shipping container?

Yes. At 4,725 mm the DB12 and 5,039 mm the DBX707 both sit within a standard container's internal length with room for proper restraint — length is not the constraint on this marque. What matters is that the container is sole-use.

How much does it cost to ship an Aston Martin to Dubai?

It varies with method, model, origin, the car's value and season, plus UAE duty and VAT on import. We do not publish a flat figure because it would mislead — request a free quote and we will price your car.

How long does it take?

It depends on origin, routing and method. Air is quickest; a dedicated container is slower. We confirm a realistic door-to-door window at booking rather than quote a number that will not hold.

Can a right-hand-drive Aston Martin be registered in Dubai?

The UAE registers left-hand-drive cars for road use; right-hand-drive registration is restricted to narrow classic and exhibition exceptions. Because so many pre-owned cars of this marque are UK-market, we check drive side at quotation and tell you plainly what is possible.

Does my Aston Martin need GCC-spec conformity?

If it is not already built to GCC specification, yes — a GCC Conformity Certificate from MoIAT is required before the RTA will register it. We arrange that step as part of clearance, after the Vehicle Clearance Certificate.

How do you prepare an Aston Martin for air freight?

Fuel or battery charge is brought below a quarter. The car should be clean so its condition reads clearly, empty of personal items, with tracker, alarm and key details shared. Tell us about any aftermarket splitter, lowered suspension or non-standard wheels — all change the plan.

Should a Volante or Roadster ship with the roof up or down?

Up, closed and latched. Fabric left folded and compressed for a full transit is where creasing and mildew marks start, and a closed roof seals the cabin for the condition report. We record roof position and mechanism at collection.

Can you ship a Valkyrie, Valhalla or another limited-run Aston Martin?

Yes — by air, enclosed as standard, with an extended condition record covering carbon bodywork and commissioned finishes. Valhalla is a plug-in hybrid, so its battery charge state is documented at collection and prepared to the rules for flying hybrid cars.

Can you ship an Aston Martin from Dubai as well as to it?

Yes. Export is busiest March to June. We handle the RTA export certificate, deregistration and destination-side compliance on the same file.
